Recognition For Family

See what happens when you acknowledge your loved ones!

Think about: Who takes out the trash? Mows the lawn? Who makes breakfast? Packs the lunches? Prepares dinner? How about cleaning the house? Doing the laundry? Running errands? Is there a new project that someone is in charge of? What about accomplishments such as good grades? Making a sports or dance team? Who makes you laugh? Who is there for you when you are feeling down? What about the person that keeps cheering you on?

What about your extended family of aunts, uncles, grandfathers, grandmothers and cousins? Have they been thanked for their cards and gifts acknowledging your birthday, graduation, wedding or other gift-giving occasions? What about other kind gestures that are often overlooked such as giving a listening ear, offering words of encouragement or assisting you with your education or career?

From chapter 6 in THANKYOUOLOGY, enjoy these family thank you ideas:

A Family Thank You Campaign

Use colorful paper or “post its” to write thank you notes to everyone in your household. Hide them like Easter eggs—in lunch boxes for the kids (do they still make lunch boxes?), in shoes, on the computer, at the door, in a briefcase. Make it fun, do it often and enjoy what happens!

Thank You at Celebration Dinners

Before a holiday meal begins, take time to acknowledge friends and family. When everyone is seated at the table, light a candle and have one person start with a thank you to the person on the left or right. When that person is finished, the candle is passed to the next person who repeats the gesture until everyone has given and received an acknowledgment. A great way to start the meal!
