Interesting title for a blog about ThankYouology, right?  Actually it’s not that strange.  Studies have been conducted to determine what matters most to employees.  Being recognized and thanked is tops on the list.  Many professionals make a living teaching corporate management the importance of acknowledging their employees and offer hundreds of ways to do so.  It’s always been a favorite topic of mine as well–one that I can really advocate for when I talk about the art of saying thank you. Wow!  What I can say?

It’s been quite a wild ride for the last month or so…and it’s all good news!  The new ThankYouology website is up and Will Hebden of Hebden Media did a great job.  The signature signpost remains with the major website categories.  The  addition of the right sidebar helps you navigate all the lastest–social media links, Ask the Thank You Lady and Quick Links to quickly get you where you want to go.  It’s simple, it’s fun and I hope you will take look and tell your friends.  The Home of Thank You has the welcome mat out.  (more…)

Taking care of the earth is a pretty common topic of dicussion and action.  Annually there is Earth Day and the words, ”reuse” and “recycle” are popular with young and old.  Today I want to engage ThankYouologists everywhere to get behind the idea of specifically saying thank you to the bees.  Without them, human beings would not exist!

Bees pollinate fruits and vegetables.  Without pollination, our food supply would be greatly diminished.  And yet, when a bee is doing “its thing” we may not be inclined to like it doing so near us.  That’s understandable.  They can sting and I have a few memorable experiences for sure.  (more…)

On my last post, I acknowledged someone who was in the news.  Today, I thought I would mention a few people who have done some good stuff and didn’t make headlines with it yet.

Steve Simon is one of those folks who is an exquisite artist who writes poetic verse to accompany his paintings.  He has several books capturing the ”spirit” of Maui, Laguna Beach, Orange County, California and Newport Beach.  His latest publication is The Spirit of Sedona.  I would like to thank Steve for the three years he spent immersing himself in the geography, legends and magic of this magnificent place on earth.  His work is a tribute to the beauty and mystery that prompt millions of people to visit each year.  As soon as his new book on the Spirit of Sedona is available, I will let you know. With so many complaints about the news and its tendency toward negativity, I just have to be the bearer of good news…specifically Thank You’s in the News!  Yes, indeed…there are a lot of good things going on out there.  I feel it’s part of my job to bring to light and say “”thank you” to folks who are in the “good news” category.  Yesterday, the L.A. Times featured a story that I would like to share as my first of many “Thank You’s in the News” Blogs.

Richard Gilleland III is an 11th grade computer wiz who is a member of Junior Future Business Leaders of America.  At his early age, he shows very promising signs of becoming both an excellent businessman as well as a philanthropist.  He has created the only digitalized record of Iraq and Afganistan veterans laid to rest at Arlington National Cemetery.  (more…)

Are children still taught to count to ten as an anger-control technique?  I was just wondering since today’s children have different clocks (digital), ways of “tying” shoes (velcro) and even learning since computers are so common.  I bet there are at least a few adults reading this who remember counting to ten as a child to keep from doing something they might later regret.

In Chapter 9 of ThankYouology, it gives free reign to the idea that there are no rules when it comes to saying thank you.  I use it every chance I get.  So, when I thought about counting to ten, this idea came to me to keep from reacting to a situation without thinking. (more…)

I was chopping vegetables last night.  First the carrots, then the crisp green snap peas, some cauliflour, and beet greens.  My diet is largely fresh vegetables which means I chop a lot of them each day. 

What to do while chopping vegetables?  Where do my thoughts go?  Thinking about trials and tribulations?  Sure, that’s one possibility.  Or, what about dreams of the future?  That’s also a potential thought topic. (more…)

Oh gosh, I knew it would happen sooner or later.  Well, it looks like today is the day. As a writer, I love words.  And of course words are made of letters.  So I guess it is fair to say I love letters too–all definitions of letters–letters that are sent and received as well as the ABC’s that make up the words for those letters along with other communications.

So, today’s Thank You Tip has to do with the letters in the words, thank you.   It won’t take you long to get the hang of this.  Just come up with a word that begins with each letter that spells thank you.  Put the words “I am grateful for ____ in front of it and you are on your way to creating your gratitude gold stars for the day!  Here is an example:

I am grateful for Towels, Handkerchiefs, Apples, Napkins, Kangaroos, Yellow, Operas and Uncles.  (more…)

This is going to be a quick little blog today…Still, good things come in small packages!  I have been practicing this Thank You Tip for a long time…and honestly, it works every time. 

Going to the mall or your favorite coffee shop…and parking is always at a premium?    Here’s an easy way to get a parking space.  When you are on approach, start saying “thank you” to the person who is going to vacate “your” parking space.  That’s right…assume in your mind that your parking space is waiting for you when you need it.  Call it positive thinking, call it whatever you want.  I call it really fun each and every time it happens.  (more…)
